Contemporary Intensive Program

Program outline

During the one-day intensive, dancers had the chance to:

• deepen their understanding and experience in different contemporary dance techniques,

• build confidence and comfort with floor work,

• experience contemporary dance partnering techniques,

• learn about different contemporary approaches to choreography, and

• participate in the development of contemporary choreography.

Each session was offered as two streams, to meet the needs of different dancers, based on experience, age, and physicality.

​

The day started with contemporary technique classes.  Dancers had the chance to do two classes, one influenced by Graham and Cunningham techniques, and the other by Release and Limon techniques.

​

In late morning there were sessions on both floor work and contemporary partnering that were designed to build dancers'' confidence, skill, and comfort with both of these elements of contemporary dance.

After lunch was an informal seminar where you dancers learnt more about the evolution of modern and contemporary dance, including who the major figures were, and their contribution to contemporary technique, training, choreography, and performance.

The day ended with sessions where dancers experienced the choreographic techniques and be part of creating a short piece of choreography.
